51+ Disney Tips That Will Literally Make Your Trip Amazing
Between long lines, dining reservations, Lightning Lanes, transportation, and trying to keep everyone happy, Walt Disney World can feel overwhelming. The good news? A few simple strategies can completely change your experience.
After multiple Disney trips (including plenty of trial and error), these are the Disney tips that genuinely made our vacations easier, less stressful, and a whole lot more magical.
Having a Disney vacation can actually be super fun if you plan it right ๐ and if this is your first time, you will especially want to listen up
Before You Leave Home
1. Link Everyone in the My Disney Experience App (and Actually Learn How to Use It)
The My Disney Experience app is essentially your Disney vacation command centre. You’ll use it to view wait times, book Lightning Lanes, mobile order food, check dining reservations, navigate the parks, and access PhotoPass photos. Spend 15 minutes learning the basics before your trip and make sure everyone in your party is linked togetherโyou do not want to be figuring this out while standing at the entrance to Magic Kingdom.
2. Make Dining Reservations Exactly 60 Days Out
Set your alarms!!! Some of Disney World’s most popular restaurants book up surprisingly fast. Character meals, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Space 220, and other fan favourites can disappear within hours of reservations opening. Set a reminder on your phone for your 60-day booking window and prioritize your must-do restaurants first.
4. Use “Add More Magic” if you can’t get a reservation you want
We couldn’t get a reservation for Bippity Boppoty Boutique ( even though I was up at midnight to reserve aka the time they get released 60 days out!!). I heard amazing things about a service called “Add More Magic” where you pay them to try to source out a reservation for you once it opens up.
It took a few weeks but this service ended up getting us our BBB reservations at the exact times we wanted!! It cost $15 per person and you are only charged once the reservations are booked
5. Plan your outfits ahead of time for park days

We have always pre planned our oufits that way once we are there and up early- we are getting up and going. Ain’t no matter has time to be diddle daddling that morning! LOL. I even plan my kids hair styles ( they are picky so we talk it through a head of time)
Another outfit tip: Pick some clothes that you can wear again. We wear a Disney shirt for one of the park days but the rest of them are Disney inspired ( Red, pastel yellow etc) for the remaining days!
6. Bring a Portable Phone Charger
Your phone works harder at Disney than almost anywhere else. Between mobile ordering, Lightning Lane bookings, checking wait times, navigating the parks, taking photos, and messaging family members, battery life disappears quickly. A portable charger is one of those items you’ll be incredibly grateful to have by mid-afternoon.
7. Let Kids Watch Ride Videos Before Your Trip
This simple tip can eliminate so much anxiety for younger children. Watching POV ride videos on YouTube helps kids understand what attractions actually look like and allows them to decide ahead of time what they feel comfortable riding. It also builds excitement and anticipation before the trip even begins. Let them know the rides they are too short for etc
8. Bring a Refillable Water Bottle

Florida heat and humidity can sneak up on you quickly, especially if you’re visiting during spring, summer, or early fall. The good news is that water is free at disney from the stations!! Pack some Electrolytes as well to throw in your water and you will thank me later!
9. Pack Ponchos
At Disney World, rain showers are often a matter of when, not if. Lightweight ponchos take up almost no space in your park bag and cost significantly less than purchasing them inside the parks. Better yet, having ponchos means you can often keep enjoying attractions while everyone else runs for cover. We have purchased these ones before!
10. Book a Disney property through DVC Rentals for up to 30% off
Want to stay at deluxe Disney resorts for less? Renting Disney Vacation Club points through a reputable DVC rental company can often save you up to 30% compared to booking directly with Disney. It’s one of the best ways to stay at resorts like Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, or Polynesian without the deluxe price tag. Just be sure to book early, as the best rooms tend to go quickly.
This is where we booked from below
You are there…now what
10. Rope Drop Is Absolutely Worth It

Rope drop is essentially getting to the park when the “Rope” to enter the rides drops.
The first hour after park opening is often the lowest-crowd period of the entire day and allows you to experience multiple major attractions before wait times start climbing. We’ve accomplished more between park opening and 10 a.m. than during entire afternoons. For example: We waited 15 minutes for Peter Pan’s Fligth at MK, when the normal que time is 40 minutes or higher
11. Arrive Earlier Than You Think You Need To
When Disney says the park opens at 9 a.m., don’t arrive at 9 a.m. They open access to Main Street WAY earlier…like 7am earlier.
Aim to be through security and approaching the entrance gates at least 45โ60 minutes beforehand. Here you will get your Main Street Disney and Castle pics and get ready for rope drop!!
12. Stay On-Site If Your Budget Allows

Disney Resort guests receive Early Entry, which allows access to all four parks before regular day guests arrive. While it may only be 30 minutes, those extra minutes can save hours of waiting throughout the day. For families focused on maximizing rides, this perk alone can be worth considering.
Budget Option: The Swan or Art of Animation
Mid Range Option: Animal Kingdom Lodge ( actual animals on site!!!!0
Luxury Option: Four Seasons
13. Have Your First Attraction Chosen Before You Arrive

One of the biggest mistakes I see families make is stopping at the entrance to debate where to go first. Have a plan before you leave your hotel room.
Our first ride for Hollywood studios is: Mickey’s Railway, Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train, Animal Kingdom: Avator and for Epcot: Frozen
We then have a list of the rides we want to hit in a rough order so we aren’t wandering around jumping from area to area.
14. Watch the Characters Ride Dumbo Around 9:45 a.m.

One of Disney World’s best hidden gems happens in Fantasyland. Keep an eye on Dumbo around 9:45 a.m. and you may spot Disney characters taking a ride together before the crowds catch on. It’s one of those unoficially tips but happens almost every day!
15. Have an emergency bag
Think roll-on sunscreen for the kids (not necessarily an emergency, but definitely a necessity). Apply it before you go to save time, obviously.
Have Band-Aids, Advil, electrolyte packs, Polysporin, and wipes in this easy-to-grab pack!
16. Get Free Pixie Dust at Sir Mickey’s

Head to Sir Mickey’s and ask if they’re currently offering pixie dust. Cast Members will often sprinkle shimmering pixie dust in your hair free of charge. It takes less than a minute, but for younger Disney fans it’s pure magic.
Lightning Lane Hacks
17. Learn Lightning Lane Before Your Trip
Disney’s Lightning Lane system can feel confusing at first, but spending 15โ20 minutes learning how it works before your vacation can save hours of waiting in line. Watch a quick tutorial, understand booking windows, and familiarize yourself with the app. The families who know the system almost always have a smoother day.
18. Combine Rope Drop and Lightning Lane
Many guests think they need to choose one strategy or the other. The reality is that the best approach is using both together. Rope drop your highest-priority attraction, then use Lightning Lanes later in the day when wait times are at their highest. This combination consistently gives us the most productive park days.
19. Book Your Selections as Soon as Your Window Opens
Popular attractions can disappear quickly, especially during busy travel periods. If a ride is a priority for your family, don’t wait. Set an alarm and book as soon as you’re eligible.
If you are staying at a Disney resort: You can book 7 days before at 7AM
If you are NOT staying at a Disney resort, you can book 3 days before

20. Keep Modifying Your Reservations
One of Disney’s best-kept secrets is that Lightning Lane times are constantly changing. If your return time isn’t ideal, keep checking throughout the day. We’ve often moved reservations hours earlier simply by refreshing and watching for newly available times.
21. Use Standby Lines Early and Lightning Lanes Later
Wait times are usually at their lowest during the first few hours of the morning. We typically tackle attractions with standby first, then save Lightning Lanes for the afternoon when crowdsโand wait timesโpeak.
22. Space out Reservations
Planning a midday pool break? Try booking Lightning Lanes later in the day rather than first thing in the morning. This allows you to return refreshed and walk onto several attractions without spending hours in line.
Tips for Families With Kids

23. Do a Free Scavenger Hunt in Adventureland ( Magic Kingdom)
In Adventureland, do the free Pirate’s Adventure scavenger hunt. Most people ignore it. Once you exit Piirates of the Caribbean, ask a cast member where to find it. It’s to the left of the gift shop
What many don’t realize:
- It triggers hidden effects around the land.
- Water cannons fire.
- Props move.
- You also get a free map which is so cool!

24. Use a Magic Wand to pay for things

Our kids got a kicck out of this and it added to the magic!!
25. Matching Outfits Actually Help

Matching shirts aren’t just cute Instagram content…they’re practical. In crowded parks it’s much easier to spot family members quickly, especially younger children. Bonus: they also make family photos look great. Tip: While full on Mickey stuff is great, picking a colour allows you to wear these outfits more than once!!
26. Buy a Balloon for your kid but most importantly FOR YOUR STROLLER!!!
You would be shocked at the stroller parking area and how hard it is to spot yours in the sea of them. You can buy a balloon (which your kids will be PUMPED about) and then use it as a way to identify your stroller when you have to park it
27. Find the Hidden Fairies in the Queue
In the Tinker Bell area near Adventureland/Liberty Square, there are tiny fairy doors, windows, and details scattered throughout that most guests never notice because they’re rushing to rides.
Challenge your kids to find as many as they can. My kids are fairy obsessed so this was a hit
28. If doing Bippity Boppity Boutique, do it later in the day

Any sort of princess dress is not heat friendly, doing our reservation at 6:30PM ( the latest time slot) was benefical for a few reasons:
- It was pratically empty so we felt like we had the salon to ourselves
- The girls had their “evening dresses” on and loved the idea that they changed at night time
- Biggest benefit was not that they were not complaining about the heat. They were fine the rest of the night because what a waste that would be if they wanted to change out of the dresses after all that
- They got to wear their dresses during fireworks which added to the magic
29. Bring a Stroller Even if They’re “Too Old”
Disney involves far more walking than most families expect. Even children who haven’t used a stroller in years may appreciate having one by the end of the day. Trust meโit’s much easier to push a tired child than carry one.
30. Pack a Change of Clothes
Whether it’s a water ride, an unexpected rain shower, spilled ice cream, or excessive sweating, a fresh outfit can completely change a child’s mood. A small zip-top bag with extra clothes takes up very little space but can save the day. ESPECIALLY EXTRA SOCKS IF ITS CALLING FOR RAIN!
31. Schedule Downtime
One of the biggest Disney mistakes is trying to do everything. Build in time for pool breaks, snacks, or simply relaxing at your resort. Rested kids are happier kidsโand happier parents. If you have young kids you will NOT make it to the fireworks if you start your day at 9AM with no resting
32. Use Rider Switch
If you have younger children who don’t meet height requirementsโor simply don’t want to rideโtake advantage of Rider Switch. One adult rides while the other waits, then you swap without having to stand in line again.
33. Let Kids Choose One Must-Do Experience
Whether it’s meeting a princess, riding Space Mountain, building a lightsaber, or eating a giant Mickey-shaped treat, letting kids pick one priority creates excitement and helps them feel invested in the trip.
34. Use a Minnie Van for Early Morning Park Days

If you’re staying at Disney and planning to rope drop, consider booking a Minnie Van through Lyft. They can access Disney-specific drop-off locations that many other rideshares can’t, often getting you closer to the entrance and helping you maximize those valuable early morning minutes.
35. Character Dining Can Replace Long Character Lines

Meeting multiple characters during a meal can save hours of waiting in the parks. It’s one of our favourite ways to meet beloved Disney characters while enjoying a break from rides and crowds.
The Royal Table inside Cinderella’s castle lived up to the hype for us!
36. Pick Up a Kidcot Passport at EPCOT

One of EPCOT’s best free activities for children. Kids can visit each World Showcase pavilion, collect stamps, and learn about different countries as they explore. It keeps little travellers engaged while adding an educational element to the day. You do need to buy the passport itself which is $17 but all the stations are free!
Food & Dining Tips

37. Mobile Order Everything You Can
Mobile ordering is one of Disney’s greatest time-saving tools. Instead of standing in long food lines, simply place your order through the app and pick it up when it’s ready.
38. Eat Lunch Early
Most guests eat between noon and 1 p.m. We often aim for lunch around 11 a.m. when restaurants are quieter and seating is easier to find. We also book a sit down restaurant bc A/C during the warmer months is necessary!!!
39. Visit a restaurant or stop with a major them like Beak and Barrel ( Magic Kingdom) or Sci Fi Dine in ( Hollywood Studios)

Some Disney restaurants feel more like attractions than places to eat. Spots like Beak and Barrel ( new Piratte themed snack bar) are packed with immersive details, fun storytelling, and unique atmospheres that make the experience memorable. It’s an easy way to add a little extra magic to your trip.
The Sci Fi Dine restaurant has you eating your meal out of an old school car!!
As you can imagine both book up quick so book at the 60 day mark! The service of Add Your Magic can also be used to book hard to get dining reservations
40. Do a Breakfast or Lunch at Wilderness Lodge’s Whispering Canyon
Located at Whispering Canyon Cafe in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, this restaurant is known for its playful Cast Members and lively atmosphere. The food is great, but the interactions are what make it a family favorite. It’s a fun break from the parks without losing the Disney magic.
41. Bring Breakfast to Your Room
Quick breakfasts like muffins, yogurt, fruit, or bagels can save both time and money. It also makes those early rope-drop mornings much easier.
42. Don’t Skip the Disney Snacks

Dole Whip. Mickey pretzels. Churros. Mickey ice cream bars. Disney snacks are part of the experience and often become some of the most memorable moments of the trip.
My fav one? The coco puff cold brew at Hollywood Studios Star Wars area!!! Gaston’s in Magic Kingdom was a close second!
43. Tic Tacs as a little treat during the lines

A hungry child can go from happy to miserable remarkably fast. Having easy grab-and-go snacks available at all times has prevented more meltdowns than I can count. But the real secret weapon was Tic Tacs during some waits. They are mess free, I gave them 2 per line and it kept them happy without filling their tummies with too much junk!
Hidden Disney Tricks
44. Grab a Celebration Button

Whether it’s your first visit, a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or simply a special family vacation, stop by Guest Relations and pick up a complimentary celebration button. Cast Members often acknowledge them throughout the day, creating little magical moments you weren’t expecting.
45. Take the Ferry to Magic Kingdom at Least Once
Most guests focus on the monorail, but the ferry ride offers one of the most magical arrivals in all of Disney World. Watching Cinderella Castle come into view across the water is the perfect way to start a Disney day.
Some of the most relaxing “attractions” are:
- Magic Kingdom โ Disney’s Wilderness Lodge boat
- Magic Kingdom โ Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort boat
- EPCOT โ BoardWalk boat
46. Use the “Hey Disney” app in your Disney hotel
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, don’t ignore the little device sitting on your nightstand. Most guests never use it, but it’s actually packed with Disney-themed features.
Why it’s worth trying:
- Ask Disney questions instantly โ Need to know what time the fireworks start, when the pool closes, or where the nearest bus stop is? Just ask.
- Set magical wake-up calls โ Instead of a standard alarm, Disney characters can help wake the kids up for park day.
- Play Disney trivia and games โ Great for downtime in the room while getting ready or taking a midday break.
- Hear jokes and stories from Disney characters โ A fun little touch that younger kids especially love.
- Request simple room items โ At some resorts, you can use it to ask for extra towels or housekeeping assistance.
47. Ride Attractions During Fireworks OR Do the night time Parade

While many guests gather to watch nighttime spectaculars, wait times for certain attractions often drop dramatically. It’s one of our favourite ways to maximize rides.
I also would recommend being at the park at least ONCE at night.
The Starlight Parade happens at 9AM and it’s AMAZING…so, so magical and a little easier to have your kids stay up for!
48. Use PhotoPass Photographers
Even if you don’t purchase Memory Maker, PhotoPass photographers will often take photos with your own phone. It’s one of the easiest ways to ensure everyone actually appears in family photos.
49. Explore a Disney Resort You’re Not Staying At
Some of Disney World’s best experiences happen outside the parks. Grab a Dole Whip at the Polynesian, admire the Grand Floridian, or visit Animal Kingdom Lodge to spot giraffes and zebras from the viewing areas.
50. Talk to Cast Members

You would be surprised at how helpful and knowledable they are about Disney. We learned soo much about the parks, rides and some hacks just through them!
51. Use a Poloroid Camera + Mini album for Character Photos and Autographs
Instead of using a traditional autograph book, have characters sign beside a Polaroid photo taken with them. Store the photos and signatures together in a small album to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake. Years from now, you’ll likely treasure those candid character moments even more than a store-bought souvenir.
Here are the items we used:
52. Go to Animation Courtyard for the best spot to meet characters in Hollywood Studios- Best Disney Tips for Characters!!!
This area ended up being a place where we dipped into here and there throughout the day and whenever we did, we saw a character. Here is who we saw: Rapunzel, Chip, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Stitch!!!
