90+ of the Ultimate Places to visit in Summer in Ontario
Thereโs something magical about summer in Ontarioโฆ I swear the entire province collectively comes back to life the second the warm weather hits. To be fair, winter felt extra long this year, so I think weโre all just incredibly happy to be outside again. Patios are packed, beach towns are buzzing, cottage weekends are booked solid, and suddenly every single person you know is trying to squeeze in โjust one moreโ road trip before September. The summer vibe in Ontario honestly feels unmatched.
From charming cottage country escapes and vibrant city festivals to turquoise swimming holes and family-friendly road trips, summer in Ontario is anything but boring. As much as I love travelling internationally, I really do love exploring our own backyard in the summer!
This list is great for families but it really can work for a couples getaway or girls outing! This list of 90 amazing places to visit in Ontario this summer is filled with destinations that deserve a spot on your warm-weather bucket list.
You also can get my customized Google Map that allows you to plan your day by location!
๐ฟ GREATER TORONTO AREA (GTA + EAST YORK REGION)
Allan Gardens Conservatory
A tropical greenhouse oasis right in the middle of downtown Toronto that somehow still feels like a hidden gem.
Itโs completely free to visit and makes such a good stop year-round, but especially on rainy summer days when you still want something beautiful to explore. Inside youโll find massive palms, tropical plants, seasonal flower displays, cacti rooms, and warm humid air that instantly feels calming. Itโs also one of my favourite low-cost Toronto activities with kids.
Kensington Market
One of Torontoโs most eclectic neighbourhoods…vintage shops, global food, street art, and weekend pedestrian vibes. We love El Trompo for legit Mexican food ( an OG!!)
Centre Island
One of the best summer day trips in Toronto. You take a short ferry ride over and suddenly it feels like youโve escaped the city completely. There are beaches, bike rentals, walking paths, picnic areas, skyline views, and even a small amusement park for kids. We usually spend an entire afternoon here because thereโs honestly so much to do.
Little Canada
One of the coolest indoor attractions in Ontario and surprisingly entertaining for both adults and kids. Itโs basically a miniature version of Canada built with insane detail โ tiny CN Towers, miniature Niagara Falls, moving trains, interactive elements, and so many hidden little Easter eggs. Such a good rainy day option in Toronto and genuinely one of those places that exceeds expectations.
Toronto Islands
One of the best summer day trips in Toronto. You take a short ferry ride over and suddenly it feels like youโve escaped the city completely. There are beaches, bike rentals, walking paths, picnic areas, skyline views, and even a small amusement park for kids. We usually spend an entire afternoon here because thereโs honestly so much to do.
Wardโs Island is my favourite area to wander if you want quieter cottage-style vibes and cute little hidden corners.
St. Lawrence Market
An absolute Toronto classic and one of the best food markets in Canada.
If you love food-focused experiences, definitely book a food tour here because there are so many iconic spots and local vendors to try. Between the peameal bacon sandwiches, fresh pasta, baked goods, cheese counters, and international food stalls, you could easily spend hours here grazing your way through the market.
Outdoor Movies at The Well
One of Torontoโs newer summer experiences that honestly feels very cool-city-summer coded. Throughout the warmer months, The Well hosts outdoor movie nights where people bring snacks, grab dinner nearby, and watch films under the city lights. Such a fun low-key date night or family evening downtown.
Stackt Market
Built from shipping containers and constantly changing with pop-ups, events, food vendors, markets, and seasonal installations.
In the summer there are patio nights, live music, themed events, and family programming happening all the time. Itโs one of those places that always feels lively and different every time you visit.
Old Spaghetti Factory
A nostalgic downtown Toronto classic that somehow still feels exactly the same in the best possible way. Itโs family-friendly, affordable by downtown standards, and honestly just easy after a busy day exploring the city. The interior is super quirky with old streetcars and vintage decor which kids especially love.
Hit up some of the best parks: High Park, Grange Park or Raccoon Park
Do a park tour of some of the best in the city! These 3 are our go to’s that we have visited since the kids were really young!
๐ธ YORK REGION + GREATER TORONTO AREA- Places to visit in Summer in Ontario

This is an amazing option for a weekend getaway and is only a 1.5 hour drive from the City! It feels like cottage living yet so close. Some of the cabin set ups are amazing for families- bunk beds
We stayed in The Boat House cabin and couldn’t recommend it more! There are also some incredible places close by to check out:

Round The Bend Farm (Rounds Ranch)
Seasonal festivals, sunflower fields, pumpkin patches, and wagon rides.
UPLA Trampoline Park
A large indoor trampoline and activity parkโgreat for kids, birthdays, or burning energy on rainy days. Easy GTA-adjacent option when you need something active but indoors.
Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens -A peaceful lakefront garden in Mississauga filled with winding walking paths, shaded trees, and vibrant rhododendron and azalea blooms in late spring. It sits right along Lake Ontario, so you get a mix of floral gardens and wide, calming waterfront views. Pack a picnic here! Definitely one of the places to visit in summer in Ontario that feels like you are somewhere else!
Kariya Park
A peaceful hidden Japanese garden tucked into the middle of Mississauga that feels worlds away from the city.
You really do feel like you are in Japan- i kid you not! Think koi ponds, bridges, waterfalls, and quiet walking paths. Itโs especially beautiful during bloom season and early mornings are definitely the best time to visit before it gets busy. Such an underrated little Ontario summer stop.
Here is my post on the most Instagrammble spots in Mississaugaga that are close by!
๐ NIAGARA & SOUTHERN WINERIES/ BEACHES CLOSE BY

Their iconic butter tarts pictured to the right ( I love the Skor ones!)
13th Street Winery
Art-filled winery known for its bakery and beautiful grounds. This is one of our favourite wineries in Ontario!! We may or may not be regulars. It’s a winery that is soo family friendly ( they have a big hill that was purposely built so the kids can run up and down it!), they have an actual art gallery on site and a bistro.
It checks all the boxes and their butter tarts specically are legendary.
Sons & Daughters Winery
Boutique, relaxed winery experience with a low-key vibe. They definitely cater to families and we love their outdoor pizza oven!!
West Avenue Cider House
Cider tastings, orchard views, and seasonal events.
Back 10 Cellars – One of the prettiest hidden gem wineries in Niagara with a relaxed countryside feel and gorgeous patio views. It feels much quieter and more intimate than some of the bigger Niagara wineries. They have charcuterie, little snacks ( the kids had meatballs when we were there last!) and ton of space for them to run!
Whirlpool Aero Car– The coolest attraction over the Niagara gorge where you have view points like no other. The kids absolutely loved it! I would buy Niagara parks pass that lets you experience a few of their spots in one day. Totally worth it!
Journey Behind the Falls
One of those classic Ontario attractions that honestly still impresses every single time. You walk through tunnels behind the falls and can feel the mist and power of the water up close. Itโs touristy for a reason and definitely worth experiencing at least once.
WildPlay Niagara Falls Zipline
A high-speed zipline that sends you directly toward the falls which is both terrifying and amazing at the same time. The views are incredible and itโs such a fun way to experience Niagara differently if youโve already done the traditional attractions.
We booked this tour HERE
Crystal Beach
Soft sand, warm shallow water, and relaxed beach-town energy. It really makes you feel like you are in a cool town in California!

We go once a year and love having a little itinerary there:
- Coffee/ Smoothie Bowls, from Shaka Beach time
- Stay at Hotel Phil Co
- Rizzo’s House of Parm ( reso needed!)
- Wine Bar Pit Stop at Gather
Port Dalhousie Carousel
Located right in Port Dalhousie near the beach and pier, this historic carousel still only costs a few cents per ride which somehow makes it feel even more magical. The entire area has an old-school lakeside town vibe in the summer with ice cream shops, walking paths, beach access, and sunsets over Lake Ontario.
Tip: Pair this with a visit to Happy Ralph’s Animal Farm just 10 minutes away!
Long Point Provincial Park
A quieter beach option if you prefer nature-focused escapes over busy tourist beaches. Long stretches of sand, shallow water, bird sanctuaries, and a much calmer atmosphere make this such a peaceful Ontario summer destination.

Long Point Eco-Adventures
Ziplining, glamping pods, and stargazing domes. If you aren’t a camper but want to be immersed in nature, this is a great option! It has all the comforts of a hotel but you are in a styled tent ( with hardwood floor and a bathroom!).
Tip: Go across the street to Burning Kiln Winery ( amazing food and perfect for the kids to run around + parents to enjo themselves)
Painted Ladies of Grimsby
A colourful row of restored Victorian-style homes along the Grimsby waterfrontโbest visited around sunset when the lake light hits and the whole stretch feels unexpectedly coastal. Easy stop to pair with nearby wineries or a Lake Ontario drive.
Tip: Book a table at Good Earth Niagara for lunch after. They often have live music and it’s easily one of my favourite restaurants in Ontario!
HAMILTON & SURROUNDING AREA

Puddicome Winery- Jump on a little trolley train that circles this amazing winery and bake house. It has amazing views of the ecarpment and has a little something for the entire family
Tip: You can pair this visit with a hike at Devil’s Punch Bowl
Storybook Gardens
A nostalgic fairytale-themed park that feels especially magical for younger kids. There are rides, splash pads, themed play areas, and lots of interactive spaces designed around classic nursery rhymes and stories.
Bingeman’s
Such a good all-in-one summer family destination if you want easy entertainment without overplanning. Thereโs a waterpark, mini golf, bowling, arcade games, ropes courses, and seasonal outdoor events throughout the summer. Itโs especially great for families with mixed age groups because thereโs genuinely something for everyone.
One of Hamiltonโs cutest little summer activities for families. The waterfront train/trolley ride along Pier 8 gives beautiful lake views and feels surprisingly relaxing and nostalgic. Itโs a simple activity but younger kids especially LOVE it. Pair it with ice cream, Bayfront Park, or a waterfront dinner afterward for an easy summer afternoon.
A Hamilton summer staple right on the waterfront serving burgers, fries, fish and chips, and classic ice cream counter vibes. It feels very nostalgic Ontario summer and is such an easy stop after the beach or a waterfront walk.
Tip: There is an awesome park right by here where they have a zipline!
๐ FAMILY + FARM EXPERIENCES

Clovermead Adventure Farm
Bees, mazes, and seasonal farm fun.
African Lion Safari
A classic Ontario summer experience where you drive through animal enclosures and see giraffes, lions, rhinos, and zebras roaming nearby. Kids especially love it because it feels way more interactive than a traditional zoo.
Tip: There is an amazing water section there. We really didn’t come prepared the first time or realize how long the kids would want to play here. I would bring some lunch/snacks and after the safari plan for at least 2 hours there!
Brantwood Farms
Sunflowers, apple picking, and seasonal events. If you miss it in the summer, their fall festival is iconic! The sunflower festival is in August and they normally have food trucks, tractor rides and you can even pick your own flowers to bring home.
Dyment Farm’s– This is one of my favourite place to go in the summer ( and the fall!). It’s a country style market but they serve up one of a kind SMASH BURGERS in the summer ( the best!!). They also have a little swing set and a mini golf area for the kids. Places to visit in summer in Ontario like this make you feel like you are living a 90’s one!
Kelso Lavender Farm
A dreamy purple field experience that feels straight out of Provence during peak bloom season.. Itโs especially beautiful at golden hour and makes for amazing family or couples photosor slower summer outing. They serve up lavender popsciles and have a lot of Instagram worthy set up’s!
Tip: Nearby is Rattlesnack Point Conservation area if you want to pair it with a hike
๐ฆ WATERFALLS, BEACHES + ICONIC OUTDOOR SPOTS

Here is a good list of places to visit in Ontario in summer that will leave you outside and immersed in Nature! These are some of mine ( and my kids) favourite hikes and waterfalls!
Tiffany Falls + Sherman Falls ( pictured above)
Beautiful easy waterfall stops that are especially nice for families because the hikes are manageable. Both of these stops are only about 15 minutes round trip and I would recommend going earlier vs later in the day or mid week!
Tip: Go to Grain & Grit Brewing or Purple Pony afterward.

Elora Quarry– Places to visit in Summer in Ontario that are Unique!
One of Ontarioโs most iconic summer swimming spots and honestly somewhere that barely feels like Ontario once you see the water colour in person. The turquoise quarry surrounded by limestone cliffs makes this feel almost tropical on a hot summer day. You can swim, cliff jump in designated areas, or just relax on the rock edges and take in the views. It gets busy quickly in summer so I definitely recommend reserving tickets ahead of time and arriving early.
Dundas Peak
Easily one of the best panoramic viewpoints in Ontario and surprisingly accessible for families too. The hike itself is fairly short (about 25 minutes roundtrip depending on your pace) but the views at the top are absolutely worth it. You do need to reserve a time slot ahead of time during busy seasons, especially in summer and fall. Pair it with nearby waterfalls or a stop in downtown Dundas afterward for the perfect Ontario day trip.
Webster’s Falls
One of the most photographed waterfalls in Ontario and such a classic Hamilton hiking stop. The waterfall itself is beautiful but the surrounding trails and forest area are what really make it feel like a full outdoor experience. It pairs perfectly with Dundas Peak if you want to turn your day into a waterfall-and-hiking itinerary.
Tip: if you want to grab food or a drink after, visit nearby Detour Cafe or Shawn and Ed Brewing!
Balls Falls
A beautiful conservation area with waterfalls, walking trails, bridges, forests, and historic buildings all in one place. Itโs especially stunning in fall but summer here feels peaceful and lush. Itโs an easy nature escape that works well for families because the trails are manageable and thereโs lots of space to explore without needing a full-day hike commitment.
Tip: We like visiting Westcott Wineries after as a little post hike reward. It’s 5 minutes away!!!
Devil’s Punchbowl Conservation Area
A dramatic ribbon waterfall surrounded by cliffs and hiking trails that gives you one of the best scenic lookouts in the Hamilton area. Sunset here is especially beautiful and itโs an easy stop if youโre exploring Hamiltonโs waterfall region.
Tip: Stop at Ridge Road Winery afterwards. Amazing grounds, delicious bites and so much space for the kids!
Aberfoyle Antique Market
One of Ontarioโs best summer treasure-hunting spots and such a fun place to wander for a few hours even if you arenโt specifically shopping for antiques. Open seasonally on Sundays, this massive outdoor market is filled with vintage finds, collectibles, furniture, decor, records, jewelry, and the kind of random hidden gems you didnโt know you needed. The atmosphere feels very classic Ontario summer road trip โ coffee in hand, walking through rows of vendors, and leaving with something unexpected.
Tip: Pair this with a visit to Reunion after ( great brunch place!) West Avenue Cider after or go to Dyment’s Farms!
Grand Bend
One of Ontarioโs most iconic summer beach towns and honestly one of the best places for a classic Canadian summer weekend. The sunsets here are unreal and the whole town has such a nostalgic beach-energy feel in the summer.

๐ ROADTRIP + ICONIC STOPS
Big Nickel
A classic Ontario roadside stop thatโs exactly what it sounds like โ a giant nickel monument towering over Sudbury. Itโs kitschy in the best way and one of those iconic Canadian road trip photo ops everyone should probably do at least once.
The Big Apple
An Ontario road trip institution. Almost everyone driving between Toronto and Eastern Ontario has stopped here at some point for pie, apple bread, cider, or just the oversized apple photo. Itโs touristy but honestly part of the fun. Their bakery section alone is worth the stop.
St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market
One of the largest year-round farmersโ markets in Canada and such a fun place to spend a slow morning. Fresh produce, baked goods, local cheeses, handmade products, and incredible food vendors make this feel way bigger than your average market.
